Magazine/Newspaper directory

Does anybody know where I can find an online directory of magazines and newspapers? Ideally searchable by city. I want to get some work experience and to contribute some articles to ...well any magazine that will have me really. I need a directory to be able to contact these publications. I am looking for everything from free publications, lifestyle magazines, listings, what's on etc
